What We Believe
We are at the beginning of our story... and we believe good theatre starts with an idea worth pursuing and the right people around the table.
Hat Rack is building a theatrical company capable of originating its own productions, championing work from creators we believe in, and collaborating with other artists and organizations when the right project brings us together.
Our mission is to build a trusted artistic home on California’s Central Coast where bold ideas, talented people, and quality theatre come together to create something worth returning to.
Our vision is for what takes shape, through the stories and experiences we create, to live beyond them - in the people we move, the connections we make, and the community we help strengthen.
Our invitation is to join us as we start our story and try on the unexpected.
Our Core Values
VALUE THE PEOPLE
Great theatre begins with people who feel valued, included, respected, and supported.
BUILD A GREAT ROOM
We bring together talented, generous, and curious people committed to making something meaningful.
CHOOSE WITH INTENTION
We choose work thoughtfully, considering the story, the artists, the audience, and why it belongs at Hat Rack.
RESPECT THE WORK
We honor the story and the process with care, preparation, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
CREATE THE UNEXPECTED
We make room for curiosity, discovery, and experiences that surprise, engage, and stay with us.
PRODUCE RESPONSIBLY
We balance artistic ambition with thoughtful choices that support the work and sustain the company.
STAY CONNECTED
We strengthen connections between artists, audiences, partners, and the community we call home.
Our Community
The California Central Coast has a long history of a vibrant performing arts community.
Hat Rack Theatre Co.'s intention is not to recreate what already exists, but to contribute something distinctly our own.
We want to create a new pathway for meaningful theatrical work to happen - bringing together local and regional performers, musicians, directors, choreographers, designers, technicians, creators, and collaborators around projects chosen for their artistic potential.
Hat Rack Theatre Co. can act as an artistic partner with selective projects that align with our vision and mission.
